THE HEATHMAN HOTEL
A Portland Library Experience for the Oregon Intellectual Traveler
Oregon's independent luxury arts hotel, The Heathman Hotel, boasts one of the few cataloged lending hotel libraries in the country. A member of the American Library Association's "Association for Specialized Corporate Libraries," our hotel was recognized in 2007 by AAA as the only independent hotel in the country to offer a library of its scope. A cultural experience for the intellectual traveler, The Heathman Hotel features one of the most exclusive libraries in the country with over 2000 volumes, most signed by the author, while staying in-house with us. Most of these first editions are displayed in custom cases in the Mezzanine Library. As Portland's leading cultural district hotel, the Heathman Hotel's passion for the arts embraces not only art, theatre and music, but literature. The Heathman Hotel's incredible collection includes signed editions from Nobel Prize and Pulitzer Prize winners, U.S. Poet Laureates, and two United States Presidents.
Over the years, many talented writers, including Stephen King, Tom Wolfe, John Updike, Wallace Stenger, Alice Walker, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Annie Dillard, James Patterson and Ian Rankin, have spent the night and have autographed works for our evolving hotel library in downtown Portland. We are pleased to share these books and offer our guests a distinctive and rich literary experience.
Our Librarian will recommend books and pull them from our teak bookcases to assist with your literary enlightenment. Guests can sit in the beautifully decorated Library, with plush sofas, soft chairs and calm lighting from our skylight that looks out to our famous mural by artist Henk Pander. Alternatively, our Personal Concierge team can assist you with book lending and retrieve for you a requested book you desire for you to enjoy in your guest room.
A truly cultural experience in downtown Portland, our hotel library has been featured in the news . . .
