Heathman Hotel LibraryThe historic Heathman Hotel Oregons independent luxury arts hotel touts one of the few cataloged, lending hotel libraries in the country. We are a member of the American Library Association’s “Association for Specialized Corporate Libraries”. We were recognized in 2007 by AAA as the U.S.s only independent hotel property to offer a library of its scope. The Heathman Hotel aims to promote literacy in our community by making books more accessible and entertaining.The Heathman Hotel has 2,000 volumes of the hotels 4,000+ volume library displayed in custom-made cases in the Mezzanine Library, each book is signed by its author who was an overnight guest. The Heathman Hotel’s collection to date includes signed editions from seven Nobel Prize winners, fourteen Pulitzer Prize winners, and five U.S. Poet Laureates. As Portlands leading cultural district hotel, the Heathman Hotels passion for the arts embraces not only art, theatre and music, but literature as well, said Chris Erickson, General Manager of the Heathman Hotel. Over the years, we have been fortunate to host a number of talented writers and honored to accept their signed works for our ever-growing library. We are pleased to be able to share from notable authors - including Tom Wolfe, Wallace Stenger, John Updike and Alice Walker - to create a distinctive experience for our guests. The Heathman Hotel has long collaborated with Powell's Books, the nation's largest independent new and used bookstore, to create a rich literary guest experience. A dedicated staff member manages the collection and works with Powells Books to operate our rare cataloged hotel library. The Heathman Hotel now offers you the chance to cozy up for an evening of relaxation and reading by enjoying our Books by Your Bedside Package. This imaginative and delightful package gives you the opportunity to escape to a world of drama, action, comedy or romance - while enjoying a book written by an author that has stayed in the same hotel (and quite possibly the same room!) as you. For every package purchased the Heathman Hotel will make a donation in the guests name to SMART (Start Making a Reader Today), a non-profit organization that promotes literacy for Oregon children.
