“BOOKS BY YOUR BEDSIDE”

New Package to Celebrate Debut of Art Hotel’s Expansive Library

PortlandThe historic Heathman Hotel, Oregon’s independent luxury arts hotel, introduces the uniquely Portland “Books by your Bedside” package. The Heathman, which touts one of the few cataloged and lending hotel libraries in the country, collaborated with Powell’s Books, the world’s largest independent used and new bookstore, to create a rich literary guest experience. The package is $229 based on double occupancy, and can be booked through the hotel’s Web site at www.heathmanhotel.com, by calling 503.790.7129, or through central reservations at 800.551.0011.

For every package purchased, the Heathman Hotel will make a donation in the guest’s name to SMART (Start Making a Reader Today), a non-profit organization that promotes literacy for Oregon children.

Overnight guests will receive:

We are pleased to be able to share from notable authors – including Tom Wolfe, Wallace Stenger, John Updike and Alice Walker – to create a distinctive experience for our guests.”

The Heathman is a member of the American Library Association’s “Association for Specialized Corporate Libraries” and the hotel aims to promote literacy in our community by making it more accessible and entertaining.

“Books by your Bedside” Borrows from Noteworthy Library

In 2007, the Heathman Hotel was recognized by AAA as the U.S’s only independent hotel property to offer a library of its scope. The Heathman Hotel’s collection includes signed editions from seven Nobel Prize winners, 14 Pulitzer Prize winners, and five U.S. Poet Laureates.  2,000 volumes of the hotel’s 4,000+ volume library are displayed in custom-made cases in the Mezzanine Library, each signed by the authors who were overnight guests.  A dedicated staff member manages the collection and works with Powell’s Books to operate one of the few cataloged hotel libraries in the country.

The library has been featured in the news on several occasions including National Geographic Intelligent Traveler
